CAD assemblies, large codebases, and stacks of VMs are sustained, cache-unfriendly workloads that hit main memory constantly rather than in bursts — so unlike gaming, true_latency_ns (the actual round-trip to a cache miss) matters here as much as raw speed_mts, and both trail only capacity, which decides whether the working set fits in RAM at all. ECC support — common on the server-class parts that feed big workstation boards — earns a small bonus for the data-integrity workstations value, but doesn't gate eligibility, since most workstation builds still run ordinary non-ECC UDIMM.
